Windows 8.1 was made available for free for all existing users of Windows 8 on a desktop PC, laptops and tablets. This new Windows OS version was released in mid-October 2013 and is available online via the Windows Store.
Often called as Windows Blue, the Microsoft\’s Windows 8.1 OS has numerous features with the update. The new version of Windows OS has a more personalized approach towards the OS. More vibrant colors and shimmering backgrounds have been made for the ‘Start Screen\’ for welcoming the user with a great appeal.

The new and improved start screen will now provide an eye-pleasing look along with the combination of larger and smaller tile sizes. Selecting, uninstalling, resizing or rearranging various apps all at once will be easier now. Several updates reveal that even the camera in Windows 8.1 can be used without logging in. Additionally, the slideshow of images can be viewed easily even if the screen is locked.
Managing the apps will be easier as now the user can view and segregate the apps in accordance to the installation date, name, most used, and by category. Furthermore, the recently installed apps can now be viewed from the ‘new’ section of the apps menu, earlier these were automatically added to the Start screen.
By adding multi-tasking feature to the OS, Windows 8.1 now has the capability of sharing three apps at once. The user can now resize apps to the desired size and work on the same accordingly. The information shared on tech blogs states that the pre-loaded apps including Photos and Music in Windows 8.1 will be more improved and advanced.
Microsoft will also upgrade ‘the Windows Store’ in its Windows 8.1 version. Designers at Microsoft have focused specifically on to redesign the OS in such a way that it will show more information to the users. An additional search bar at the top, snapping of multiple windows of the same app and Start \’tip\’ replaced by a Windows logo are some of the other interesting options of Windows 8.1.
The searching experience will be completely transformed now, as the search section will provide the global results that are offered by Bing, a browser. However, the actions such as playing a video or song, accessing apps or results from files, changing settings and viewing pictures can be performed easily by scrolling to the left.
Recent updates conclude that changes in PC settings can be easily made without using the ‘Control Panel\’ and the newly improved SkyDrive will let the users save files directly to the cloud and is capable of providing offline access.
Windows 8.1 is accompanied by Internet Explorer (IE) 11, which aims at delivering faster page loading along with a better touch performance. Market has a rumor that the Windows 8.1 users will be able to boot straight to the desktop rather than going through the actual procedure of the Start Screen. But the confirmation will only come with the launch of Windows8.1 in the market.
